Huami AmazFit Arc Review: Still The Best In 2018?

When it comes to fitness trackers, there are so many to choose from. Many tend to prefer the premium end trackers like Fitbit, Garmin and so on. Without a doubt, many look for affordable yet reliable trackers and then comes Amazfit Arc, a low-priced accurate tracker. So, is it any good in 2018? Let’s find out.

Huami Amazfit Arc: Design

The design of the Arc closes resembles Fitbit Alta and Xiaomi Mi Band 2. Well, the band features a 0.42-inch OLED touch display but is limited to the bottom portion of the screen, which is pretty sensitive in both good and a bad. You’ll likely zip around a little too quickly missing metrics you want to look at, but the same time, it’s really responsive compared to other trackers.

Well, it shows time, steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, heart rate and battery life. It has an improved pedometer for more accuracy in steps count and exercise measurement, and also alerts you if you have been idle for too long.

Huami Amazfi Arc: Tracking & Setting Up

The Arc features an accelerometer and heart rate sensor, but there are no other sensors like GPS or gyroscope, which are the basic fitness tracking. The steps tracking on the Arc has been accurate when compared to other devices like Xiaomi Mi Band 2 or the HRX edition.

Detection heart rate is slow and inaccurate most of the time. There is sleep tracking embedded in it which is again a hit or miss, works similar to how FitSleep or Xiaomi devices works, but here you get the rating for your sleep (on Android). However, on iOS, you don’t get the same level of metrics, it’s just the bar graph with no ratings.

  • Open the Google Play Store, search for the Amazfit and download it.
  • Open the app, you will be prompt to create an account, which is compulsory.
  • You will have to pair your band which is quite simple, go with the instructions.
  • After pairing you will see a well-designed app showing your step counts with your set goal, sleep, heart rate and few added features. That’s it. You’re done!

Huami Amazfi Arc: Apps & Features

There aren’t a whole lot of features outside the ones mentioned in the tracking section. The device itself can show you the time, steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, heart rate and battery life.

It also buzzes lightly when someone calls and shows a little phone symbol. There’s no caller ID on the wrist and you can’t dismiss or answer. Well, the Arc app is really simple and if you’re looking for in-depth analysis or extensive metrics, you won’t find it.

Huami Amazfi Arc: Battery Life & IP Rating

It is rated IP67, which means you can’t go swimming with it but it will be ok washing dishes, in the rain and in the shower out of direct spray up to 30 minutes. The 70mAh battery life of Huami Arc is pretty good, it comes around 13-15 days (2 weeks) with a single charge, which is pretty good compared to other fitness bands of the same price range.

The Arc comes with a proprietary charger that’s magnetic and attaches to the back of the device. It doesn’t take long too to recharge – about 30 mins. Apart from the technical terms, the band fits in perfectly and is comfortable to wear.

The Downside Of Amazfit Arc?

1. It is hard to the display in direct sunlight.
2. Heart rate monitor is slow to process and inaccurate sometimes.
3. And lastly, The app is really simple, so if you’re looking for in-depth analysis or extensive metrics, you won’t find it.

Apart from the minor drawbacks, Huami Arc stands pretty well against Mi Band 2 and HRX edition.
