Earlier this year, Xiaomi debuted its first in-house chipset; Xiaomi Surge S1, joining a rare class of smartphone brands like Huawei and Samsung to have offer own processors. Currently, Xiaomi has only one smartphone; Xiaomi Mi 5C, running on its own chipset.

Nokia Phones Could Come With Xiaomi Surge S1 SoC
It was predicted that the Surge S1 will stay within the Xiaomi ecosystem but a report revealed that the company has secured Nokia as a customer for its in-house chipset. Going back to the chip, it houses octa-core processor, made up for four 2.2Ghz Cortex-A53 cores and four 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 cores, paired with Mali-T680 MP4 graphics unit.
Apparently, Xiaomi has impressed HMD Global with its chipset. Well, it is still not clear whether the Surge S1 models will be China-only handsets, or sold globally. We don’t know how well the Surge S1 handle worldwide LTE networks.
