Google Is Reportedly Developing YouTube Edition Phone

Yes, you read it right! Google has been reported to develop a YouTube Edition phone. Well, according to the UK-based survey company called Survey Bods, Google is evolving an Android phone dubbed YouTube Edition.

YouTube Edition Phone

The dubbed smartphone will feature optimized hardware and software to watch YouTube even easier. The survey described a handful of unique software and hardware features, which will enhance the user experience of watching videos and connecting with creators.

Two Briefed Features

  • The first feature is called YouTwist, which will let you rotate your device to landscape on the home screen and instantly access a set of YouTube videos you might want to watch. In addition to that, there’s a feature called YouCapture i.e a dedicated hardware key on the side will let you access YouTube videos or capture the video.

 
  • Secondly, Creator Connect feature. This feature (appeared in the survey), which has an Instagram Stories like-design for YouTube accounts appeared at the top of the device’s home screen. So, yeah, tapping on any of the profile will take you to the creator’s community feed. In extension to that, there’s a Live Lockscreen feature, which will allow a live video thumbnail to display on the lock screen, providing the patch to the user to jump straight into the video.

So, Will It Be A Flagship? Specifications?

Certainly not. In the survey, the YouTube Edition phone was compared to a handful of old or mid-range phones like iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy A5. There are few different versions of the phone, but in the most cases this was its specifications ;

  • 6.01-inch (2160 x 1080 pixels) LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio
  • 2.2GHz processor
  • 4GB RAM
  • 32GB / 64GB storage
  • Dual 12MP + 5MP rear cameras
  • 8MP front-facing camera
  • Android OS
  • 3700mAh battery
  • Fingerprint sensor, Dual Dolby Atmos stereo speakers
  • Colors: Black, White, and Red

Not only specs, the pricing info was also given. Depending on the storage, the YouTube Edition phone would be priced anywhere between £269 (roughly Rs 23,200 / US$360) to £299 (roughly Rs 25,700 / US$400). The survey mentioned also mentioned that this phone would receive an additional 10GB of free data per month for 12 months.

It is worth noting that the survey mentioned few names; “YouTube Edition by Android One”,  “YouTube Edition by LG”, “YouTube Edition by Samsung”, or “YouTube Edition”. This clearly symbolizes Google is looking for a partner.

Not to forget, this is just a survey does not mean we will actually see the product. Although there is a possibility for a phone like this to launch eventually, or maybe Google had already scrapped this idea, anything could be possible.
