Huawei Kirin 970 10nm SoC With Neural Network Processing Announced

Huawei announced its next-generation processor; Huawei Kirin 970 SoC for high-end or flagship devices at IFA 2017. This is world first mobile SoC with dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

Huawei Kirin 970 SoC

The Kirin 970 is an Octa-Core SoC with four ARM Cortex A73 Cores, which is clocked up to 2.4GHz and four Cortex A53 Cores clocked up to 1.8GHz, pretty much similar to its predecessor the Kirin 960.

In addition to that, it is built on 10nm TSMC process technology, which is way more efficient than the 16nm FinFET process in the predecessor. It comes with a faster ARM Mali-G72MP12 GPU and in extension, it supports LTE Category 18 offering download speed of up to 1.2Gbps.

Huawei did not reveal much of its latest processors specifications, but it said that the Kirin 970 will power the Mate 10 series that will be announced at an event in Munich, Germany on October 16.

Richard Yu, CEO, HUAWEI Consumer Business Group, said:

The ultimate goal is to provide a significantly better user experience. The Kirin 970 is the first in a series of new advances that will bring powerful AI features to our devices and take them beyond the competition.
