Uber Adds In-App Chat Feature

Uber app did have call capabilities between drivers and riders, but the user experience was never complete without this feature. So, once you requested a ride, you will see the usual “Contact” button below the driver’s name. Tapping that will bring up a brand-new chatting window.

Well, you can still call the driver, the option is still there on the top right corner. Both the rider and the driver will see whether their messages have been delivered and read and it’s worth noting that all the communication will be done in a driver-friendly way.

The message from the rider will read aloud to the driver and the driver can simply tap in return to send the rider a thumbs up. That way, they can stay focused on the road.

This new feature is rolling out to all the markets that Uber serves around the world in the coming weeks. Uber’s press release did not mention any region. Uber calls this as its first step towards helping drivers and riders to communicate more easily and seamlessly.
