Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 450; Improves Battery Life & Performance

Qualcomm has unveiled a new entry-level mid-range Snapdragon 400 platform at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2017. This new platform is called the Snapdragon 450 and its a step up from the Snapdragon 435 platform.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Unveiled

The Snapdragon 435 is built on a 28nm manufacturing process and features an Adreno 505 GPU, supports 300 Mbps / 100 Mbps downloading, uplink speed over 4G LTE and can handle 21 MP image capture and video recording at 30fps.

While the Snapdragon 450 is built on a 14nm process, which allows better battery life and higher clock speeds and apparently means that it will have improved performance than its predecessor.

How Good Is Snapdragon 450 From Snapdragon 435?

Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 450 will have 25 percent more CPU performance and higher GPU performance with 30 percent lower power consumption i.e. you can expect up to 4 hours more average battery life.

The digital signal processor (DSP) and image signal processor (ISP) has been updated. And going by numbers, DSP will be five times more efficient and ISP can now handle 13MP dual-camera setup and 21MP single camera sensor. In addition to that, it can record videos at 60fps.


Difference Between Snapdragon 450 And 435

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 features an 8X ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, while the Snapdragon 435 features an 8X ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz. The Snapdragon 450 comes with a slightly improved modem i.e now it supports 150 Mbps uplink speeds, which is 50 percent faster than on the 435.

Qualcomm also claimed that the platform supports real-time bokeh and has an option to enable Qualcomm Clear Sight, which uses a dual-camera setup involving a monochrome and RGB sensor to create sharper images. It supports USB 3.0 standards and faster storage and in addition to that, Qualcomm has also added biometric access via an iris scanner.

All in all, the shift from 28nm process to a 14nm process will be beneficial to the smartphone users. The upcoming smartphones such as Nokia 6 will come with Snapdragon 450. What do you guys think about it? Let us know in the comment section below.
