Major Skype Update Adds Snapchat-Like Features; Highlights & Add-Ins

Skype has suffered from a lot from bloatware and poor performance for many years now, which competitors have taken advantage of. Well, instead of creating a simple video and messaging experience, Microsoft has announced a major Skype update.

Skype Update Adds Snapchat-Like Features

The update is pretty similar to what Microsoft has already done with Skype Preview. Most of the changes relate to chat screen, which is now split into Find, Chat, and Capture. The Find screen allows you to quickly share content like GIF, YouTube video without leaving the app and Microsoft calls it “add-ins”.

You can now add your reaction to the specific message much like Slack and Facebook Messenger, which is on the Chat tab. The Text bubbles can also have gradient backgrounds. And the Capture tab has a viewfinder for taking photos and videos, which is a literal copy of Snapchat as you can add text, emojis, and drawings later.

In addition to that Skype is also adding ‘Highlights’ (story feature) because why not? Microsoft said that the update will soon start rolling out to Android users today with iOS, Mac and Windows update coming soon.
