OnePlus 2 Vs OnePlus One

  • OnePlus has Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 810 Chipset, Known for the heating issues this chipset generation has been suffering.
  • As OnePlus One, the successor also has 13MP resolution but now with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) with Laser Auto Focus to help with low light focusing.
  • OnePlus 2 is now a millimeter thicker and more than 10g heavier than from the predecessor.
  • OnePlus 2 now has Dual Nano SIM Support and battery is some 200mAh bigger.
  • OnePlus 2 is either one of the first or the first smartphone launching with USB Type-C Connector.
  • OnePlus 2 includes fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone (like iPhone 6 and Samsung’s Flagship Samsung Galaxy S6) with a quick touch (which can be customized). The fingerprint is more a touch pad (like HTC One M9+), you can use it to wake the phone.
  •  It’s not all sunshine and roses though. There have been some cuts as well. The base 16GB model now has only 2GB RAM as opposed to the 3GB on both versions of the previous model.
  • OnePlus 2 will also be more expensive than the OnePlus one (Described Below).

Camera

The OnePlus 2 has a 13 megapixel camera on the back with optical image stabilization, laser autofocus and 4K video recording. The OnePlus 2 Lacks the DCI 4K video option, through and maxes out at 4K UHD. There is a 120fps slow motion mode, however.

Design and Build Quality

While most people did seem to like the OnePlus One design, the OnePlus 2 seems to have opinions divided. The OnePlus 2 features a 5.5-inch, 1920×1080 resolution IPS LCD.

The front of the phone now features the fingerprint sensor prominently below the display. Like the one on the HTC One M9+, the sensor on the OnePlus 2 is not a physical button but can be used as a capacitive Home button. On either side of the sensor are back and multitasking buttons that are hidden quite well until you touch them.

On the left, however, is a new three-step sound profile slider that toggles between the silent/priority notification/all notifications modes, and is very convenient if you quickly want to silence the phone.

On the bottom you see the grilles for the speaker and microphones, the new USB Type-C connector.

It’s worth noting that the OnePlus 2 does not include support for the Qualcomm QuickCharge feature, even though the chipset inside supports it.

The back of the phone has the same sandstone black finish, with identical texture to OnePlus One.

The OnePlus 2 will also support additional back panels in wood finish, which can be removed and applied easily.

UI and Performance

The OnePlus 2 runs on the new Oxygen 2 OS, compared to Cyanogen OS on the previous phone. Oxygen looks pretty much identical to stock Android for the most part. It got some elements from cyanogen, such as the ability to use on-screen buttons. The performance from the Snapdragon 810 and 4GB RAM seems excellent and the phone seemed perfectly fine in casual use. Gaming performance likely to be great as well. The phone comes in two configurations but it’s unlikely there would be a big performance difference, although it’s worth getting the 64GB model just for the storage space if not for the RAM, as there is still no microSD support on the phone.

Release Dates and Pricing

The OnePlus 2 will be available in India from August 11. It will be exclusively sold by Amazon India so this means you will have to buy it online. Just like how it was with the OnePlus One. Unlike the last time when getting the pass was sort of lottery, this time OnePlus is using queue system. This means you register with an intent to buy the phone and then you are allotted a place in the queue. People who had registered earlier would get the chance to buy the phone earlier. You can register here. As the OnePlus 2 is upgraded from the predecessor i.e OnePlus One. Pricing will also be quite expensive. In India, OnePlus 2 is likely to be around Rs.22,999 for 16GB version and Rs.24,999 for the 64GB version. Personally, I think new flagship phones sounds awesome and will be a great contender for the flagship devices with relatively less expensive but what do you think?? Are these specs enough to convince you to upgrade your Phone?? Is there anything missing that you’d like to see added?? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below and check back soon for more information on upcoming devices.
