Samsung Bixby, A New Artificial Intelligence
In between leaks about the upcoming Samsung smartphone i.e Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, the company itself has decided to officially announce one of their new but defining features. Samsung says that Bixby isn’t like any other virtual assistant, it will learn and adapt to you.
The Bixby will make your phone easier to use, creating a great user interface. In addition to that, the dedicated button for Bixby, so you don’t have to wonder how to invoke the assistant- you just press it.

A Virtual Assistant That Adapt To You
The assistant has various features (as gathered), the assistant will work provided the user is currently using the Bixby-enabled app (obviously), pressing the special-purpose button which invokes the AI, which will then prompt users for a voice or touch command.
The assistant will be smart enough to understand your commands even if you issue them with incomplete information. It will offer a deeper experience than its competitors because of its proficiency in three properties: completeness, context awareness, and cognitive tolerance;
- Completeness refers that it will support “almost” any task that you can perform via touch inside an app. The caution is that the app needs to be “Bixby-enabled”.
- Context awareness means that you will be able to invoke Bixby at any time, even while using an app and it will know what you were doing and comes up with “various modes of interactions including touch or voice”.
- Cognitive tolerance, Bixby is smart enough to understand your commands even if you give incomplete information, in such cases, it will first execute the task to the best of its knowledge, and only then, if needed, will it ask you for additional details.
Addition!
The worst part is that when the Galaxy S8 launches only a subset of pre-installed applications will be Bixby-enabled. Samsung promises that more apps will be supported in time and the company plans to “eventually” release a software development kit (SDK) for third-party developers to use in order to make their apps Bixby-capable easily.
Samsung said;
There has been a lot of excitement and speculation about what we will deliver with the launch of the Galaxy S8 later this month, especially due to the advancements in artificial intelligence. We do have a bold vision of revolutionizing the human-to-machine interface, but that vision won’t be realized overnight. Ambition takes time.
