Google’s plan to connect millions of Indians through the internet is now, reached 100 railway stations across India.
“The Largest Public Wi-Fi Project In The World.” Says Google
According to the company, after the rollout at the 100th railway station in India, over 10 million Indians now have access to high-speed internet. Railtel Wi-Fi has 15,000 first time users connecting to the network every day with over 5 million monthly users.

The company’s target is to cover 400 stations with hight speed Wi-Fi and is working with state-run ISP RailTel since January 2016. RailTel has optic fiber cable that runs alongside railway tracks covering almost 70 percent of the country.

Gulzar Azad, Country Head – Connectivity, Google India said;
We’re really excited about reaching this milestone and it is an incredible feeling to look back and see how far we’ve come since we announced that we were partnering with Indian Railways and RailTel to provide Wi-Fi at 400 railway stations throughout the country.

RailTel released some statistics, which showed Patna railway station tops the chart in terms of internet search using the free Wi-Fi service, although the maximum searches were for porn sites. Patna is backed by Jaipur railway station in second, which is followed by Bengaluru and New Delhi.
