OnePlus has confirmed that it has undergone a data breach exposing sensitive details including customer’s contact numbers, names, and addresses. However, the payment information, passwords, and accounts “are safe”, claimed the Chinese firm.

OnePlus revealed that their security team discovered that some of the customer’s order information was accessed by an unauthorized party and the name, contact number, email, and shipping address in certain orders may have been exposed. As a result of this, affected users may receive spam and phishing emails.

OnePlus has already informed this incident to impacted users by email and has taken immediate steps to stop the intruder and reinforce security. If you have not received an email from OnePlus regarding this incident, then your data is safe and it has not been exposed, according to OnePlus. The Chinese firm has not confirmed how many customers are affected.

OnePlus’ statement reads:

We took immediate steps to stop the intruder and reinforce security. Before making this public, we informed our impacted users by email. Right now, we are working with the relevant authorities to further investigate this incident.

OnePlus said users might receive spam and phishing emails as a result of the incident, which is quite expected. However, according to some ethical hackers, this breach could be worse, as the leaked data, like your name and address can’t be easily changed, which means criminals can utilize this data to create phishing emails that seem legit.

OnePlus Data Breach: Not The First Time 

This is not the first time, OnePlus has been breached. Last year, the OnePlus security breach exposed the credit card details of around 40,000 OnePlus customers. Moreover, the news came out after hundreds of customers reported fraud on their accounts after paying over the OnePlus website.

But the company needs to improve its security along with the brand value, probably that’s why the company is partnering with a world-renowned security platform next month and will launch an official bug bounty program by the end of December 2019.
