The smartphone revolution is at a spectacular rate, be it the design or the technology embedded. We have been seeing in-display fingerprint sensors, punch-hole front cameras, bezel-less displays even in the budget-end smartphones. Not just that, lately there have been a slider and flip phones to keep the stream running.

Along with the flip and slider phone comes the idea of a foldable smartphone. Don’t get me wrong, the idea has been hibernating in the industry for a while now, well, it has been shaken up again. That said, here are some foldable devices you need to look forward to. Mind you, some are announced, some are upcoming and rest are rumored. Let’s kick in.

Samsung

Last, a rumor popped up about Samsung’ foldable smartphone which later got confirmed by the company and few days, along with Galaxy S10 series (Unpacked 2019), the South Korean company has announced the specs and features of the dubbed Galaxy Fold smartphone.

Unlike the FlexPai, the Galaxy F has a better design, user interface and (for more) seems more promising. The Galaxy F comes with six cameras and the software allows for three-app multi-tasking when opening on the larger display. It is priced at US$1,985.

Huawei

Huawei was rumored to working on a foldable smartphone for quite some time now. Well, the company has announced its first foldable smartphone in MWC 2019. Dubbed as Huawei Mate X, this foldable smartphone sports and features a top of the line internals with great aesthetics.

The device is 5G enabled, powered by Kirin 980, paired with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage. More or like, the design of this smartphone is great and also signify higher pricing than that of Galaxy Fold, which is 2299 Euros.

Royole- FlexPai

Royole, a company that manufacturers flexible electronics has a commercially-available smartphone with a flexible display dubbed as FlexPai. Presently, it is only available in China as a developer model, however, the FlexPai has been showcased recently in CES 2019.

Upcoming Foldable Smartphones

This device turns from a 7.8-inch tablet to a smartphone by folding in half. The device looks like a generic smartphone but on a bulky side. The hinge needs to be perfected, which will see in future developments.

TCL

TCL has announced its entrance into the foldable smartphone market at MWC 2019. Although, the company hasn’t released any specifics about the device, however, the company has shown off a prototype.

The prototype comes with a hinge, dubbed as DragonHinge, which lets the device to open and shut like a wallet. Not just that, the company also showed a concept with a display on the cover, which lets users check notifications and messages.

Xiaomi

President of Xiaomi, Lin Bin, teased a foldable smartphone in a video, last month. The video showcases a large screen that folds on two sides to turn into a compact device and vice versa. According to the company, this will be the world’s first foldable phone with dual-side foldable technology.

Currently, the device is just a prototype, however, if the people are interested in this, then it will consider mass production of the device in the future. The company has also asked people for a name for the phone.

Sony

Sony has been claimed to working on a foldable smartphone for a while now. A YouTube channel called Tech Configurations showed us how amazing the device it could be. The name is speculated to Xperia Note Flex and will offer a transparent display.

  • Dual rear camera (19MP + 12MP)

According to some reports, the device is said to pack in a 6.2-inch OLED display with a 4K resolution (when folded out), powered by Snapdragon 855 and is also rumored to be featuring an in-display fingerprint sensor.

OPPO

Apart from the brands that announced their upcoming foldable smartphone, OPPO is the OEM that is most likely the one next to announce a foldable smartphone. According to leaks and reports, the company has already filed patents. We were expecting a foldable smartphone announcement at MWC, but nothing appeared.

However, images of the devices appeared on the Chinese micro-blogging site, Weibo. This smartphone is clearly a prototype and has an OLED wraparound display on the outside, which is way different than folding internally. Well, no time-frame has been announced, but we expect to get announced by 3rd quarter of this year.
