Vivaldi Browser

The popular Vivaldi Browser has added Ad and Tracker blocker in both mobile and desktop apps, which according to the company was one of the most requested ones. The browser has also been moved to the stable channel after being in beta for almost seven months. Here’s what you need to know.

Vivaldi Browser: Ad And Tracker Blocker

The tracker uses DuckDuckGo’s Tracker Radar to have the trackers at bay. For those of you who aren’t familiar with DuckDuckGo, it is a search engine focused on privacy, meaning it acts as an ad and tracker blocker. Both the tracker and Adblocker are disabled when you first download the browser, and you need to enable them in the settings.

You can choose between three modes ‘No blocking,’ ‘Block trackers,’ and ‘Block trackers and Ads.’ You can also include exceptions to manage blocking levels per site, apparently enhancing the customization options.

In a statement, Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner, co-founder and CEO of Vivaldi Technologies, said these new privacy controls let people browse the internet freely:

Now more than ever, humanity needs an internet that’s well-functioning and open but also private and secure. With the new Vivaldi, users can browse with its wealth of features freely and efficiently without being tracked online.

He also told TNW that ad and tracker blockers were one of the top requests amongst users of the browser’s beta version on mobile. With this release, Vivaldi achieves things that only a few browsers (Brave and Opera) are capable of doing.
