Google Certifies Rugged Android Phones For Business Use, Promises 5 Years Of Security Update

Google announced Android Enterprise Recommended program back in February. This program was designed to help large businesses pick Android offerings that meet elevated enterprise requirements.

Google Certifies Rugged Android Phones

Google today adds a collection of rugged Android phones to the list, with Honeywell in the first batch and Panasonic promised for the near future. This ruggedized category guarantee that the devices will useful for five years. Not just that, it also requires the device to run Android 7.0 or later.

Furthermore, there has to be at least 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. One major OS update is also promised (within 18 months of the board support package release). In addition to that, the rugged devices need to be drop-test rated, and certified for ingress protection, though apparently not at specific levels.

There are 11 rugged devices currently in the program, with more coming soon:

  • Zebra TC25, TC51, TC56, TC70X and TC75X
  • Honeywell CT40, CT60 and CN80
  • Sonim XP8
  • Point Mobile PM45
  • Datalogic Memor 10 (launching in October)

Matter of fact, based on current IDC projections, Android could surpass Windows in 2019 as the largest rugged OS by shipments. Well, more information about each phone can be found on this page.
