Qualcomm has announced a new processor- Snapdragon 850 specifically designed for Windows 10 Always Connected PCs. This new chipset succeeds the Snapdragon 835 which was earlier used and offers improved performance, connectivity and battery life.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 SoC
The Snapdragon 850 comes with Kryo 385 CPU cores, Adreno 630 GPU, Hexagon 685 DSP, 1.2Gbps LTE, Spectra 280 image signal processors, and an instant-on resume with no hibernation. There is a slight bump in the CPU speed i.e from 2.8GHz to 2.96GHz.
The Snapdragon 850 is built on the same second-generation 10nm process as the 845 and is paired with the same X20 modem. Qualcomm clearly said that the 850 will only be used in PCs and will not make its way to phones.

Qualcomm also said that the 850 includes both hardware and software tuning to make it better at performing PC activities compared to the Snapdragon 845. The company has also promised the native support in Windows 10 for ARM64 applications via the 64-bit Win32 SDK. There’s also support for the 64-bit version of Microsoft’s Edge Browser.

- Qualcomm claimed 30 percent performance improvement.
- 20 percent better battery life.
- 20 percent faster peak gigabit data speeds.
The Snapdragon 835 platform was seen on devices from ASUS, HP, and Lenovo. Now, Qualcomm announced that more partners have joined than before. The PC partners will have the device with the 850 out in time for the holiday season this year.
