Google has officially announced that it is renaming Android Wear to Wear OS by Google. However, apart from the change in name, there no functional changes. This is clear indication that Google is paying attention to the wearable platform.

Wear OS By Google
Google is taking no time in updating the Android Wear to the latest Wear OS. Users have already started seeing the change along with a new boot animation, which apparently means that, we might see substantial changes in the latest one.
Wear OS APK for Android Smartwatches is already available. Possibly Google will take I/O 2018 event as a platform to introduce more changes and announcements. Google has also released the list of every watches that will receive Wear OS update.
