The next-gen 5G cellular network is around the corner and the biggest component missing in this cadre is the 5G smartphone that can actually be used on the networks. Lenovo claimed that it will be the first company to launch a 5G smartphone, using a currently unannounced Qualcomm chip.

World’s First 5G Smartphone
Lenovo VP Chang Cheng posted the info on the 5G smartphone on his Weibo account but deleted it later. The claimed that Lenovo will offer the world’s first 5G-capable phone and that it will be powered by the yet unannounced Snapdragon 855. This chipset is believed to have been in production since June, which would come with the end 2018 or early 2019 phones.
Qualcomm announced early this year that it has signed 5G modem and Snapdragon chip agreements with 19 cellular device makers. The company also said that it is working to help unspecified customers bring their first 5G devices to the market as early as this year’s end, though the devices will debut next year.

Lenovo could introduce the 5G smartphone under its own or under Motorola’s name. Cheng’s comments point to a single device with integrated 5G, but Motorola has spent around two years working on a “5G Moto Mod” attachment that will enable 5G capabilities to a 4G phone – widely believed to be Moto Z3.
Nothing is official, so, take this piece of information with a grain of salt. We have wait until anything goes official about the first world’s 5G smartphone.
