Does Your Pixel 2 XL Have Screen Burn-In Issue? Here Is How To Check!

In a recent report, the people who got Pixel 2 XL as review unit noticed a screen burn-in issue in the device. No, this not the already known issues of muddy color and grainy textures when viewed in low-light.

What Is Screen Burn-In Issue?

This issue was first reported by Android Central’s Alex Dobie. So, what is a screen burn-in? So, when a portion of the display poses a ghost image onto the display. It’s usually most noticeable in the notification shade or status bar and sometimes with navigation buttons or even home screen icons.

There’s also a phenomenon called image retention, this causes the screen staying barely visible, much like burn-in, this usually happens with buttons or icons, but if anything on your display can leave a static ghost image for long enough.

How To Check Your Screen?

Burning the screen is pretty difficult, but here’s a quick text to check whether your phone has screen burn-in issue or not.

  • Open this article in a web browser on your phone.

  • Click and open each of the above images and view the images full screen
  • Check the bottom of your screen, around navigation buttons and notification areas for any “ghost” image.

Screen burn is of two distinct types, which can best be noticed in the black or red background.

What Should You Do?

Google acknowledged the issue and said, “The Pixel 2 XL screen has been designed with an advanced POLED technology, including QHD+ resolution, wide color gamut, and high contrast ratio for natural and beautiful colors and renderings. We put all of our products through extensive quality testing before launch and in the manufacturing of every unit. We are actively investigating this report.

If you’re noticing a screen burn on a Pixel 2 XL after a week or so, you don’t have to worry, as the manufacturer will replace it under warranty. We saw that happen last year with Pixel when some experienced burn-in displays.
