What Is the NM Card Used In The Huawei Mate 20 Phones? Is It Replacing MicroSD? [Explained]

Huawei has announced its latest flagship smartphone, Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X, and along with that the company also announced its own storage NM Card (Nano-Memory Card) alternative to the 15-year-old microSD.

What Is The NM Card?

The Nano-Memory card (NM card) is a Huawei invention that offers the same sort of storage as a microSD card but in a smaller form factor, like as a nano-SIM, which can be used with the dual SIM tray on a Mate 20.

This introduction (invention) reduces down the size and is 45 per cent smaller than a conventional microSD card. o, this addition will let you have two nano SIMs or one of the sides can sport an NM card instead.

What Capacity Does An NM Card Go Up To?

At the event, Huawei showcased a 256GB NM card with 90MB/s transfer speed. We don’t know if there will be larger storage sizes in future.

When NM Card Will Available To Buy?

As of now, it seems that the NM Card is exclusive to Huawei, both in terms of phones that support the memory cards and storage companies manufacturing them. We are yet to find out retailer information.

It will be interesting to see if NM Cards expand out to other companies as a new standard for storage. For now, not much is known about these new storage cards, but it seems promising especially when dual-SIM phones are becoming increasingly popular to appeal to international markets, moreover, even Apple makes a dual-SIM iPhone for China now.
