Stuffcool Theo: Design And Build

Stuffcool Theo

The Stuffcool Theo looks pretty minimal in design terms. However, it is elegant enough to catch your eyes. Not just that, the looks, you cannot complain about the in-hand feel of this speaker. The plastic build of Theo is robust enough to tackle day-to-day abuse.

Stuffcool Theo

Theo is so-sized that it comes in handy, meaning it’s the size of your palm. The company has added enough grip to get hold of this pocket-sized Bluetooth speaker, and more so, at the back, you will find a four-rubberized holder, and at the bottom, you will find a long rubberized strip to grip.

The top-right corner of the front side of the speaker is the brand logo (Stuffcool), at the back, on the right-hand side, you will find, a slot to hook the speaker with a cable, a micro USB-port to charge, Aux port, a TF card slot (support 64GB) and lastly, a USB 2.0 port to connect a thumb drive.

Nothing on the left-hand side. However, at the top are the four (very tactile) control buttons, i.e. power on/off, Volume up/down, play/pause (also used to accept/reject calls). The power button has two functions; one to turn the speaker on/off and the other to on/off the FM Radio. Yes, the speaker comes with FM Radio, which is like a bonus.

Stuffcool Theo: Audio Quality

The Stuffcool Theo comes with a 1x5W speaker with a 40mm driver, which makes up for a great sounding speaker with the right amount of bass. This speaker produced balanced stereo sounds, which is way better than the speaker that radiates sound in a single direction.

We weren’t expecting this speaker to go high in its volume (by looking at its size), but we were wrong. This speaker can go very loud without disrupting much of the sound quality. However, the audio quality on high volume breaks a bit and isn’t as good as it is on lower levels.

That said, compared to other Bluetooth speakers of this size, Theo gives out a great sounding audio and props to the swift connect (Bluetooth v5.0), the overall experience with the speaker is exceptional.

Stuffcool Theo: Battery

Stuffcool Theo packs in a 1200mAh battery. Theo gave us 5 hours of continuous play. The company claims to offer 8 hours, which got delivered when we kept the volume at 60%. Not a deal-breaker, as the missing playback time gets compensated with strong audio output.

The charging time of the Theo (as claimed) was 2.5 hours, and we got around the same. The overall picture of Stuffcool Theo in terms of battery backup and charging time is pretty decent concerning the price point.

Stuffcool Theo: Other Features

FM Radio comes in handy with Theo. Enabling it was pretty nimble, after turning on the speaker, single press the power button, you will enter into FM mode, then to scan FM channels long-press the play button it will start scanning FM channels.

Once all (available) channels are scanned, you can switch between channels by short pressing + or – button. Overall, the FM functionality is efficient and worked like a charm.

One of the most highlighting features of the Bluetooth speaker is the TWS (True Wireless Stereo) function. So, this feature lets you pair two Theo Bluetooth speakers with one mobile device. We couldn’t be able to test this feature, but we expect the speaker to work seamlessly well, as it comes with Bluetooth v5.0.

PROS

  • Portable, easy carry
  • Diverse input options
  • Powerful bass
  • FM Radio

CONS

  • Audio quality could have been better
  • Average Microphone
  • A bit pricey (comparatively)

Verdict

Stuffcool Theo is priced at Rs. 1,699 (on Amazon.in and at Stuffcool.com, at the time of writing), which to some extent, justify its elegant yet strong form-factor with 5W power output speakers giving out a powerful audio-output.

Stuffcool Theo

However, the price of this speaker brings in great completion, and some are better than this like for example, BoAt Stone 650R, which we reviewed a while ago, has better sounding speakers; check out the review to know more.

That said, Theo has its place and niche to serve. So, if you want an exceptional sounding speaker that comes with FM Radio and easy to carry around form-factor, this is the speaker you’re looking for.
