After Facebook, Instagram, And Twitter, WhatsApp Blocked In China

The Facebook-owned WhatsApp blocked in China. The Open Observatory of Network Interference (OONI), a global observation network for detecting censorship, surveillance and traffic manipulation, suggested that Chinese internet service providers started blocking access to WhatsApp on September 23, according to CNN.

This is not new, China has a long history of blocking or limiting access to website, especially social networks. Some of them are Wikipedia, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and many Google Services.

WhatsApp Blocked 2Over the last few months, there were a number of WhatsApp restrictions in China. Users were not able to send video chats or photos. On Monday, the entire app went down and users were unable to even send text messages via WhatsApp.

The messaging app provides message encryption technology that does not please Chinese authorities. WhatsApp has not made an official announcement on the development. Although some people access these services through Virtual Private Networks (VPN). But the Chinese government has cracked down VPN this year.
