Huawei Launches Petal Search, An Alternative To Google Search

Last year, Huawei was banned from accessing its U.S. supply chain, and (also) from licensing Google Mobile Services (GMS) blocking the company’s international phones from running Google’s apps. This move from the US has shrunk sales and all the overall reputation of Huawei smartphones overseas.

The massive acceleration of Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) to swap-out Google’s GMS seems evident from the company rapidly building its ecosystem that will take on the already dominating iOS and Android Operating System market. In recent weeks, the Chinese firm has managed to yield replacements for Google Maps and a revamped AppGalley to replace the Play Store.

“Search,” and “AppSearch” apps came into the limelight just ahead of the P40 launch. The first app replaces the core search itself, and the second to make it easy for users to search for and install popular apps, either from Huawei’s AppGallery or third-party stores. However, both these apps had their issues, and the use of the Chinese search engine had its own privacy concerns.

Besides, Huawei reportedly started testing AppSearch in Germany, back in March. The landing page of the app was said to be designed to help users install their favorite apps like Facebook and WhatsApp on Huawei smartphones. However, it was revoked within some days of testing for unknown reasons.

Straight forward to mid-May 2020, Huawei officially unveiled its Petal Search search engine, formerly known as Huawei Search. After developing the service for over a year, In Huawei’s Petal Search, according to HuaweiCentral, users can search for the necessary information and also view news, weather forecasts, videos, listen to music, and much more.

A stable version of Petal Search has appeared for download in the Huawei online store. The Petal Search is available in the AppGallery in the category that combines several services. The new application and its functions may not yet be available in all countries until now, but Huawei will soon launch it in all countries.
