Why Can’t I Change My Skype Name?
Microsoft acquired Skype back in 2011. Before that, a user could create a new Skype account with a “user-selected” Skype name. However, after the acquisition, requirements got revised, and you would need a Microsoft account to sign up for Skype.

If you’re using Skype for Business, you can neither change your username (Skype name) nor your display name. This is because the user accounts are created by the employer, who assigns an email address and a name to every employee.
