ASUS TUF Gaming FX705: Design
At the first glimpse, the TUF Gaming FX705′ black and Red colored ROG alike combo, with the plastic faux-aluminum blushing and red paint in an angular make it look like a gaming beast.
Not just that, it comes with military grade MIL-STD-810, which means, the laptop can survive adverse conditions including extremes of solar radiation and thermal shock, but if not any of these, it can withstand day to day usage and some minor accidental falls with ease.
Being a 17-inch laptop, we were expecting it to be slightly heavy but for our surprise, it was lightweight, when compared with other 17-inches and also with respect to its screen size and all the heavy performing internals.
The lid has a small cutout, so you can see the status lights even when the laptop is closed, which is a neat feature, but of Zephyrus line. Apart from that, overall the laptop has a great design and a gaming look to it.
“the brushed material and stealthy colour combo makes the tuf gaming fx705 look gorgeous.”
The right-hand side just has a Kensington lock slot, no other I/O ports. Coming to the left, there are 2 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0, an HDMI, Ethernet, power and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Although the ports are sufficient but placing at the right side makes it slightly tough for gamers or say right-hand gamers. However, it devoids any cooling outlets giving out better performance, but we wouldn’t have minded an SD card slot and a USB Type-C port.
ASUS TUF Gaming FX705: Display
The ASUS TUF Gaming FX705 comes with a 17.3-inch, 1080p display which produces a richer detailed picture. The panel also features 144-Hz refresh rate, which enables smooth blur-free gameplay, which is great for gamers. The best part is that you can switch back to 60Hz whenever you want it.
Aside from the refresh rate which great for casual gamers, the slight disappointment here is that the sRGB accuracy on the display is quite mediocre, moreover, the brightness of the laptop is also a tad bit low coming at just 248 nits. Regardless of that, the laptop did pretty decently in the bright indoor/outdoor conditions.
“the 144hz display on asus tuf gaming fx504 takes the overall gaming experience to new level.”
ASUS TUF Gaming FX705: Keyboard, TrackPad, Audio & Webcam
The keyboard on FX705 is fairly huge and gives out a sweet typing experience, with key travel of 1.7 millimeters. The keys are bouncy, but the full num-pad is not spaced well (which is understandable).
“The typing experience on the tuf gaming fx705′ bouncy keys is a bliss.”
Apart from that, the keyboard is RGB-backlit and you can use the Aura Core software to adjust the colors and switch between basic effects, like breathing and strobing.
Coming to the trackpad, the 4.1 x 2.8-inch touchpad was pretty good, thanks to Microsoft’s Windows Precision Drivers, the accuracy and the gestures works really well. On the flipside, the touchpad felt cheap.
The speakers on the TUF Gaming FX705 is loud and clear with an ample amount of base and a sweet of mixture of vocals, which can also be boosted on in the included DTS audio app.
Well, the 720p webcam on the FX504 isn’t great, especially with colors. Overall, a decent cam with overexposed and noisy (low-light) shots.
ASUS TUF Gaming FX705: Performance
The FX705 comes with AMD Ryzen 5 3550H CPU, coupled with 8GB RAM (up to 32GB), paired with Radeon RX 560X with 4GB of VRAM, won’t let you down in terms of performance and gaming (overall). The ASUS TUF FX705 uses a 1TB SSHD from Toshiba which is just enough to the boot drive and perhaps a couple of other software.
The ASUS TUF Gaming FX705 scored 10,141 (multi-core) on Geekbench 4, which is pretty good, considering its a laptop for average gamers. Furthermore, the FX705 is a beast and can simultaneously run Premiere, After Effects, Lightroom and several other software without any issue.
“The GTX and RTX cards are a fad these days, but the Radeon RX 560X backed ASUS TUF Gaming FX705 packs in a powerpack performance punch.”
Coming to the gaming, which is the sole purpose of this laptop, it does great and pretty evident, it won’t tear through intensive games. The machine has rendered the games like the Rise of the Tomb Raider (at 1080p) at 67fps, which is pretty high when considered other machines in the same price range.
ASUS TUF Gaming FX705: Battery & Heat
The TUF Gaming FX504 packs in a huge 4 cell 64Whr battery, which gives out pretty good battery life and in our test, it has endured 3 hours and 56 minutes (4 hours closely) with 70-80 brightness, docs files opened, Chrome (over 10 tabs), minor photo editing in Lightroom and YouTube videos.
The FX705 has managed to stay cooler under load, the dual fans on the under the TUF Gaming FX705 did a reasonable job keeping the laptop’s large chassis from overheating while gaming intense graphics games.
“The dual fans on the ASUS Tuf gaming fx705 lets you game longer than usual.”
- Very affordable
- Good gaming performance
- Solid audio
- Average heat dissipation
- Fewer I/O options
- No SD card slot
- No USB-C ports
- Closely packed Numpad
The ASUS TUF Gaming FX705 with 17.3-inch 144Hz display, AMD Ryzen 5 3550H paired with Radeon RX 560X is a great gaming laptop for the price. Additionally, it can also be used for content creation and the military-grade certification is just an added bonus.
Well, at the end of the day, the ASUS TUF Gaming FX705 is a good midtier gaming laptop that offers a strong performance, great display and at a relatively low price which let alone should be convincing enough for most gamers. The TUF Gaming FX705 is priced at Rs 79,990 (as of now) on Amazon.in.
