Qualcomm Snapdragon has grasped the mid-range smartphones like Nokia 7 Plus, Xiaomi Mi A2 and more with its appreciating performance. Well, the new entrant MediaTek Helio P70 isn’t quite powerful as Snapdragon 660 (claimed by Realme’s CEO), which apparently prompted Realme U1’s price lesser than that of Realme 2. But how much is the difference? well, here’s a detailed comparison between both these processors i.e. MediaTek Helio P70 Vs Snapdragon 660.

MediaTek Helio P70 Vs Snapdragon 660: Processing Power
The MediaTek Helio P70 has four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores, whereas the Snapdragon 660 has 8x Kryo 260 CPU (which is semi-custom Cortex-A73 cores and four semi-custom Cortex-A53 cores). So, the cores on both the chipset are same, but not the clock speed.
The P70 is octa-core CPU is clocked at up to 2.1GHz, while, the Snapdragon 660 is clocked at 2.2GHz. Although, the Snapdragon 660 is ahead in the clock speed game, but the Helio P70 is a 12nm processor compared to the 14nm Snapdragon 660, which let alone improves P70’s efficiency, but then again it all boils down to the software optimization, which subjective with each OEMs.
MediaTek Helio P70 Vs Snapdragon 660: Benchmarks
In benchmarks, the Helio 70 just crushes Snapdragon 660. the chipset scores around 140-145K on AnTuTu benchmark, which is higher than the Snapdragon 660 which landed on 141K. While on the Geekbench, the P70 scores around 1540 on a single core and 5970 on multi-core, whereas the Snapdragon 660 scored around 1640 on a single core and 5900 on multi-core.
With AnTuTu and Geekbench, the scores were quite similar if not the performance, but we have taken it to the Slingshot Extreme, we found a significant difference i.e the Helio P70 scored an average of 1,000, while Snapdragon 660 marked 1300. This difference also means that Adreno 512 on Snapdragon is better than the Mali G72MP3 GPU on Helio P70. The Mali G72MP3 is comparable to Adreno 509 in Snapdragon 636.

MediaTek Helio P70 Vs Snapdragon 660: AI Performance
It is 2018 and without the term, “AI” smartphones cannot launch neither do the chipsets in them. The Snapdragon 660 sports Qualcomm AI engine which uses a hexagon vector processor, CPU, GPU, and some software features to make on-device AI experience possible.
While the MediaTek claims that Helio P70 with its dedicated APU clocked at 525MHz will have better performance. It is based on Nuropilot MediaTek’ss hardware and software ecosystem for AI). The enhanced ai engine as claimed by MediaTek is capable of handling complicated AI tasks. Moreover, the P70 even has a dedicated video encoder on board which significantly improves the video call quality even on low bandwidth connections.

MediaTek Helio P70 Vs Snapdragon 660: ISP
The MediaTek Helio P70 support 32-megapixel single camera or 24-megapixel + 16-Megapixel dual camera and also comes with 3 independent ISPs for reduced power consumption. Whereas, the Snapdragon 660 packs Qualcomm spectra 160 camera ISP with dual 14bit ISP’ that support up to 25-megapixel single and 16-Megapixel dual cameras.
MediaTek Helio P70 Vs Snapdragon 660: DSP (Digital Signal Processing)
The digital signal processing helps for machine learning and image processing. Well, MediaTek isn’t vocal about the digital signal processing in its Helio P70, however, Qualcomm is. The Snapdragon 660 has Hexagon 680 DSP, which currently is second to only 3rd-gen Hexagon 685 DSP of Snapdragon 845.

MediaTek Helio P70 Vs Snapdragon 660: Connectivity
The connectivity options are same for both the chipset, however, MediaTek didn’t disclose the modem used in Helio P70, but claims up to 300mbps download speed. While, Snapdragon 660 is backed by Snapdragon X12 modem, which can go up to 600mbps download speed, which is way more efficient than the P70.
Conclusion

But, overall, in terms of performance and other features added, Snapdragon 660 takes over MediaTek Helio P70. But, hey, this doesn’t mean Helio P70 isn’t powerful or efficient enough, a matter of fact, the P70 is better than the Snapdragon 636 and the Kirin 710.
