This new feature was first spotted on Instagram’s Android APK last month. Now, we have more details and screenshots (in action) relating to this feature. This Nametags feature will make it easier for people to promote their Instagram account visually.
In addition to that, this feature also makes it simpler to follow the people who you just met by scanning their profile’s QR code. Furthermore, you can also promote this Nametag across all other social media gaining more visibility.

Well, Instagram’s spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch about this testing. Instagram has also been spotted testing a lot feature which also includes Instagram Video calling feature (also found in its Android APK) and a Portrait mode feature called Focus (spotted by Ishan Aggarwal after decompiling the Instagram’s APK).
So, here’s how it works;
- Once the user has access to this feature, they can find a QR scanner button on their profile to bring up the Nametag editor.
- Then the user can choose a purple Instagram color gradient background, a pattern of one emoji they choose or a selfie that they wanted to add a face filter with.
- That’s it! It’s ready to share.
There is a good amount of potential in this feature where businesses and social media stars could print their Nametags onto a poster or can even make merchandise out of it. Well, for now, this feature is under a small test group who (as of now) can’t share or scan Nametags. If all goes good, we expect to see this feature out in public soon. Stay tuned.
