Ever since Cambridge Analytica data privacy scandal, in which over 87 million user data was improperly shared, Facebook has been rolling out security and data privacy updates, which also brought change in the Facebook API, causing a momentary setback to Tinder.

Facebook’s Privacy Fixes Broke Tinder
The dating service has confirmed the reports that many users can’t sign into its service and some have reported losing all their messages or matches. The affected users are stuck in a login loop where they’re asked for extra Facebook permissions, which is only to be sent back to the original Facebook sign-in request when they tap the relevant button.

Since you need a Facebook account to log into Tinder, this bug has potentially affected the entire user base. Furthermore, Facebook’s privacy changes will also affect other services too. This incident shows off the problem with Facebook’s sign-in option, which is very convenient when everything is working, but even a minor tweak to the Facebook’s API can break the entire service.

The Response
Facebook addressed the issue and stated that these problems were “part of changes” and that it’s “working with Tinder” to fix the problem.
While Tinder responded in a tweet, “A technical issue is preventing users from logging into Tinder. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to have everyone swiping again soon.”
