Philips Lighting: LiFi
Before we go ahead, let’s talk about LiFi (Light Fidelity). LiFi was coined by Harald Haas in 2011 at TED Global Talk. It is a Visible Light Communications (VLC) system running wireless communications traveling at very high speeds. It uses common household LED light bulbs to enable data transfer, boasting speeds of up to 224 gigabits per second.
Unlike the current solutions using radio waves, LiFi is a dual-path, high-speed wireless technology similar to WiFi but uses light waves to transmit data securely. Well, with this addition, customers get the double benefit of high-quality, energy-efficient LED lighting and an extremely secure and stable connection.
