Microsoft Launches Skype Lite With Aadhaar Integration Launched In India

    Microsoft has announced it’s Skype Lite mobile app for Android, aiming the low-end smartphones. The company CEO Satya Nadella introduced the app at Future Decoded event in Mumbai.

    The app is sized just 13MB and works on almost all lower-end smartphone and Microsoft claims that the app uses less data to send messages, voice and video calls even with slower 2G data connections. Addition to that Skype Lite comes with Aadhaar integration.

    The mobile Skype Lite app will allow users to make Skype to Skype audio and video calls, messaging. The App is tested by the Indian consumers and was built by Microsoft’s Hyderabad development center. The app also covers major Indian regional languages like Gujarati, Bengali, Hindi (of course), Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

    There are some additional features that come with this app, features like SMS filtering, mobile data and Wi-Fi usage monitoring and India focused Skype Bots. Skype Lite uses machine learning to avoid spam messages.

    Aadhaar Integration

    Another feature of the app, which apparently hyped up this app is Aadhaar integration which will be rolled out by June 2017. So, this feature will enable users to see the unknown callers in a variety of situations, especially for job interviews and so on.

    Facebook had launched Facebook Lite for Android back in 2015 for the emerging markets like India. The Lite app consumes less data and works on almost all Indian terrains and even on poor connections. With this launch, Skype Lite will compete with WhatsApp (160 million active users), Hike and so on.
