At the recently held Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft detailed its plans for Windows Phone based on Windows X. Microsoft put up its plans to make six devices in this year, two each belonging to the flagship, enterprise, and budget categories. The referenced phones are codenamed Cityman and Talkman. So, Starting with…

Naming Lumia 940 or 950???

  • Although the codenames are Cityman and Talkman these obviously won’t be their marketing names.
  • Marketing names are expected to be announced later this year.

According to the report, these two phones are still going by the codenames Cityman and Talkman internally.

To be clear, the information contained below is confirmed with multiple sources and I have the highest confidence in its accuracy. However, like all leaks some of this should be treated with caution as plans can change.

The phones themselves will come in either a matter White or Black Polycarbonate Color variation and the up and down volume keys will interestingly be separated by the phone’s power button.

Keep in mind that while this information is apparently very accurately and does correlate with other rumors we’ve been hearing, Microsoft has yet to announce any specific regarding their flagship phones at this time.

Hands-on-Experience

People who have seen the Cityman/Lumia950XL phone have had nothing but positive things to say and came away impressed. Specifically, this Lumia does not weigh much at all and is very compact considering it is packing a 5.7-inch Display.

In terms of hardware and design, both phones are meant to show off and highlight everything in Windows 10. They do not vary too far from current Lumia designs, but they do improve upon many of the shortcomings of previous releases. Smart Cover; but must be purchased separately. Pen Touch; is available and same as the smart cover it must be purchased separately.

Release Dates

Actual sales of the phones will likely begin in the October/November time-frame. However, Talkman(The non-XL Version) will likely go on sale first with the XL variant coming a few weeks later. In a press note CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed to employees that the will start using Talkman in the coming weeks.

Personally, I think these two new flagship phones sounds awesome and will be a great contender for the Android flagship devices but what do you think?? Are these specs enough to convince you to upgrade your Windows Phone?? Is there anything missing that you’d like to see added?? How about those codenames?? Is it time we moved beyond basic Lumia numbering?? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below and check back soon for more information on Microsoft’s new flagship phones as it breaks.
